NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BELIZE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Stewart Warren Leslie, the new Permanent Representative of Belize to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Mr. Leslie began his diplomatic career in 1998, serving his country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Foreign Service Officer and Deputy for the Permanent Mission of Belize to the United Nations.

Prior to taking up diplomatic service, Mr. Leslie's professional life centred on his commitment to education. At St. John's College in Belize, in the junior college and high school divisions, he served in several capacities, including, from 1985 to 1992, as Pastoral Director and Director of Activities, and Head Councilor and Special Assistant to the President. He also lectured on political science, communications and speech from 1994 to 1998. In May of 1997, he received the St. John's Berchman's Award for Outstanding Service to the College.

Mr. Leslie's professional experience has also included, in 1998, hosting a morning radio show, as well as a television talk show.

Mr. Leslie earned an Industrial Arts diploma in 1982 and a Business Associates Degree in 1985. He also attended Loyola University in New Orleans, where he received degrees in Communications and Political Science.

Mr. Leslie, who is single, was born on 30 September 1964.
