NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF EQUATORIAL GUINEA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Teodoro Biyogo Nsue, the new Permanent Representative of Equatorial Guinea, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Biyogo Nsue served in the office of his country's Permanent Mission to the United Nations for over seven years. In 1993, he was named First Secretary, and since 1997, he has served as the Mission's Counsellor.

Mr. Biyogo Nsue joined his country's foreign service in 1989, as the Second Secretary of Equatorial Guinea's Embassy in Addis Ababa. The following year, he served as the Second Secretary for his country's Embassy in Nigeria.

Early in his diplomatic career, Mr. Biyogo Nsue served as the Head of the Protocol Office in Equatorial Guinea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was also the Director-General for Coordination in the Ministry of Planning and Development.

In 1976, Mr. Biyogo Nsue obtained an industrial certificate from the Virgen de la Paloma Trade Union Institute of Madrid. He spent the next three years in the Russian Federation, where he took up intensive and graduate courses at the Telecommunications Institute of Ulianov. From 1982 to 1983, he studied international relations in Egypt. Mr. Biyogo Nsue is fluent in Spanish, Russian and English, and has a knowledge of French.

Born in Angong-Obuc, Mongomo, on 12 January 1956, Mr. Biyogo Nsue is married and has four children.
