DPI TO HOLD TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR PALESTINIAN JOURNALISTS

Seven Palestinian journalists from broadcast and print media will participate in a training programme organized by the Department of Public Information (DPI), from 25 October to 17 December.

During the programme, which is designed to strengthen the participants’ professional capacity as information media personnel, the journalists will attend briefings by officials of the United Nations and United Nations specialized agencies, along with representatives of media organizations in the United States.

Participants will also attend a one-week programme in Washington, D.C., participate in a skills training internship at CNN Headquarters at Atlanta and attend two weeks of special classes at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. In addition, they will obtain on-the-job training by serving as temporary United Nations correspondents, covering United Nations meetings and activities on behalf of their media organizations.

The training programme for Palestinian broadcasters and journalists was initiated by DPI in 1995 at the request of the General Assembly and has been organized annually since then with the objective of assisting the Palestinian people in building and strengthening their media capability.

The seven journalists who will participate in this year’s training programme are: Shahdi Al-Kashif, Deputy Editor, “WAFA” News Agency, Gaza; Gladys Battikha, General Manager, “Amwaj” Radio, Ramallah; Jivara Budeiri, Reporter, “Al Watan” TV, Jerusalem/Ramallah; Said Ghazali, Columnist, The Jerusalem Times, Jerusalem; Ayham Ghalib Khayal, Anchorman for English nightly news, Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC), Gaza; Ata Hasan Manna, Reporter, “Amal” TV, Hebron; Sanaa Ahmad Abd El-Nabi Shalaldah, Reporter, Bethlehem Media, Bethlehem.
