SECURITY COUNCIL SANCTIONS COMMITTEES ELECTS OFFICERS FOR 1998

19980106 NEW YORK, 6 January (Department of Political Affairs) -- On 6 January, the President of the Security Council, Alain Dejammet (France), convened meetings of the Council's Sanctions Committees, which are composed of all members of the Council, to elect their respective bureaux for 1998.

The composition of the elected bureaux is as follows:

Security Council Committee established by resolution 661 (1990) concerning the situation between Iraq and Kuwait:

Chairman Antonio Monteiro (Portugal) Vice-Chairmen Brazil, Gabon

Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 748 (1992) concerning Libya:

Chairman Danilo Turk (Slovenia) Vice-Chairmen Gabon, Portugal

Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 751 (1992) concerning Somalia:

Chairman Jassim Mohammed Buallay (Bahrain) Vice-Chairmen Costa Rica, Gambia

Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 864 (1993) concerning Angola:
