NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF COMOROS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS
19971104 Biographical NoteAhmed Djabir, the new permanent representative of the Comoros to the United Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Monday, 3 November.
At the time of his appointment, Mr. Djabir, an agricultural engineer specializing in rural economics and sociology, was serving as Special Envoy of the President of the Republic. Prior to that, in 1995, he served as National Director of the project "Support for grass-roots economic initiatives in rural areas", and in 1994 as Director-General of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Mr. Djabir attended the National Agricultural College of Madagascar from 1966 to 1969, where he obtained the Diplôme d'ingénieur en agronomie (agricultural engineering diploma). From 1969 to 1972, he served as Assistant Director-General of Agricultural Production, Industry and Crafts, before becoming the Chairman and Managing Director of the Economic and Social Development Corporation of the Comoros.
In 1983, Mr. Djabir served as Chairman of the Committee on Agricultural Cooperation (COCOLAG), and in 1987, he participated in various meetings of the Eastern and Southern African Preferential Trade Area (PTA). In 1987, 1991 and 1993, he took part in the General Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome.
Mr. Djabir was born in Mitsamiouli, Grande-Comore, Comoros in 1943.
