Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly

H.E. Mr. Sam Kahamba Kutesa, President of the General Assembly (PGA), condemns in the strongest terms the horrific terrorist act that took place at the school in Peshawar, Pakistan today the 16th December, 2014, causing numerous deaths and injuries, the vast majority of whom were children.   He also condemns recent terrorist acts around the world.

During this painful time in Pakistan, the President of the General Assembly conveys his deepest sympathy and condolences to the victims of this heinous act and to their families, and to the people and the Government of Pakistan. President Kutesa expresses the solidarity of the United Nations General Assembly with the people and Government of Pakistan in this difficult moment.  He stresses the importance of ensuring the right of every child to have access to education in a safe learning environment.

The President of the General Assembly reaffirms that terrorism in all its forms and  manifestations is unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation wherever, whenever and by whomsoever commits it.     He calls on the international community to redouble efforts in the fight against the scourge of terrorism.

The President of the General Assembly underlines the need to bring the perpetrators of these acts to justice and calls on member states to support the efforts of the Government of Pakistan in this regard.
