Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico

H.E. Mr. Sam Kutesa, President of the General Assembly (PGA) met today with the Permanent Representatives of Colombia (H.E. Mrs. María Emma Mejía Vélez), Guatemala (H.E. Mr. Fernando Carrera Castro) and Mexico (H.E. Mr. Jorge Montaño).

They discussed important issues on the agenda of the 69th session. They also exchanged views on the Preparation Process of the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on the World Drug Problem scheduled to take place in 2016 (UNGASS 2016). The Special Session will be an opportunity to discuss different policy options and review the progress in the implementation of the Political Declaration and Plan of Action of 2009 on International Cooperation towards an Integrated and Balanced Strategy to Counter the World Drug Problem.

Guatemala, Italy and Mexico

On the same day, President Kutesa also met with the Permanent Representatives of Italy (H.E. Mr. Sebastiano Cardi), Guatemala (H.E. Mr. Fernando Carrera Castro) and Mexico (H.E. Mr. Jorge Montaño).

They discussed priorities of the current session and exchanged views on United Nations reforms, including reform of the Security Council.

Parliamentary delegation from Uganda

Earlier in the day, a delegation of Parliamentarians from Uganda paid a courtesy call to the PGA.  The delegation was headed by Hon. Isiko Asupasa, Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs. It included Hon. Peter Ogwang, MP (Youth MP Eastern Uganda) and Hon. Lucy Ajok, MP (Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Tourism, Investment and Industry).

President Kutesa briefed the delegation on the priorities of the 69th Session, such as the Post-2015 Development Agenda and its implementation, climate change, gender equality and women empowerment, the revitalization of the General Assembly and the reform of the Security Council. The parliamentary delegation was accompanied by H.E. Dr. Richard Nduhuura, Permanent Representative of Uganda to the United Nations in New York.
