Mr. Steen Malthe HANSEN

Mr. Steen Hansen has benefitted from extensive international and public service exposure since joining the Danish Foreign Service in 1998 after an initial stint as Junior Professional, Associate Protection Officer with UNCHR working in Côte d’Ivoire and Kenya. Prior to joining the Office of the President of the General Assembly, he worked in the UN Peacebuilding Support Office focusing on cross-cutting policy issues and the nexus between development and post-conflict contexts, including further strengthening the UN – World Bank partnership in post-conflict situations. As a Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN for four years prior, his experience extended to conflict prevention and post-conflict peacebuilding and stabilization, promoting an integrated approach across a range of interrelated thematic areas as well as covering political affairs with a particular focus on African and European developments. Previously, his multilateral diplomatic experience included providing political advice to the European Union Special Representative for Sudan in the run-up to South Sudan’s independence. His professional experience also includes inter-governmental negotiations within and outside a UN context, analysing and assessing strategic, political and economic developments and trends. Mr. Hansen has a Master in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, a Master in Law from Copenhagen University and a DESS in diplomacy and administration of international organizations from Université de Paris-Sud.
