Excellencies,<\/p>\n

Ladies and gentlemen,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Thank you for attending today\u2019s informal meeting, convened for the second consecutive year in response to the membership\u2019s call for a more analytical and consultative approach to drafting the Security Council\u2019s Annual Report.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Russian Federation, the Council member responsible for preparing the introductory portion of the report, for their cooperation in facilitating this informal consultation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As the United Nations organ entrusted with the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security, the drafting of this report falls within the remit of the Security Council.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At the same time, the General Assembly has an essential and complementary role to play in addressing these critical issues. This meeting is a direct response to continued calls for strengthening the relationship between the General Assembly and the Security Council, as well as for reinforcing the complementary roles these two bodies share in upholding the United Nations\u2019 foundational mandate: \u201cto save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today, I encourage the wider membership to offer contributions that are clear, constructive, and actionable, mindful of the challenges confronting global peace and security, which have only intensified over the past year.<\/p>\n

I also urge members of the Security Council to approach the insights shared during this meeting with openness and consideration, facilitating that these perspectives resonate in the annual report.<\/p>\n
