Commemorative meeting of UN General Assembly to mark International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
What: The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Philemon Yang, will convene a plenary meeting of the General Assembly on Friday 21 March 2025 at the UN Headquarters in New York to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The theme of this year’s observance is the “60th anniversary of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms Racial of Discrimination (ICERD)
As the first of the UN’s core international human rights treaties, ICERD set the stage for future human rights advancements. This 60th anniversary of ICERD calls for reflection on progress made against racial discrimination while highlighting ongoing challenges.

- Philemon Yang, President of the UN General Assembly
- Courtenay Rattray, Chef de Cabinet of the Executive Office of the Secretary-General, on behalf of the Secretary-General
- Ilze Brands Kehris, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, on behalf of the High Commissioner for Human Rights
- Michal Balcerzak, Chair of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
- Sarah Lewis, Associate Professor at Harvard University and Founder of Vision and Justice
