Your Excellency, Paula Narv\u00e1ez, President of ECOSOC,<\/em><\/p>\n

Ms. Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, <\/em><\/p>\n

Mr. Sameh Kamal, Organizing Partner of the Major Group for Children and Youth,<\/em><\/p>\n

Excellencies, Delegates,<\/em><\/p>\n

Let me begin by commending the President of ECOSOC on the successful convening of this 2024 High Level Political Forum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the theme of reinforcing<\/strong> the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and eradicating<\/strong> poverty in times of multiple crises speaks to the fragile <\/strong>\u2013 and yet special<\/strong> moment in which we live.<\/p>\n

Likewise, the theme makes clear that it is up to us<\/strong> \u2013 as a united international community \u2013 to find sustainable, resilient, and innovative solutions<\/strong> that would enable us to effectively deliver on our 2030 commitments.<\/p>\n

Because deliver we must.<\/p>\n

We are six years away from our 2030 target.<\/p>\n

And we must leverage the urgency<\/strong> of our charge.<\/p>\n

Today, 1.1 billion people<\/strong> are living in multidimensional poverty.<\/p>\n

And if we do nothing impactful, eight per cent of the global population \u2013 or 680 million people<\/strong> \u2013 will still languish in hunger by 2030.<\/p>\n

We, therefore, must do much more<\/strong>, and do it now<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Much more<\/strong> to tackle the root causes of poverty and hunger and their wider links to conflict, climate change and economic shocks.<\/p>\n

Much more<\/strong> to reinforce the strength of our institutions \u2013 and promote peace and justice for all. I repeat, for all.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Much more<\/strong> to forge the strong partnerships that will undergird the success of our efforts.<\/p>\n

Much more<\/strong>, because a heightened sense of urgency<\/strong> is the strongest motivation we have <\/strong>to help us deliver transformative results.<\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/em><\/p>\n

The 2023 SDG Summit<\/strong> saw the adoption of a strong political declaration and launched a new phase of accelerated action<\/strong> to realize the SDGs by 2030.<\/p>\n

As contribution, I convened the first-ever General Assembly Sustainability Week <\/strong>in April \u2013 spotlighting the importance of sustainable tourism, transport, infrastructure, energy, while also underlining that debt sustainability is an inhibition to required fiscal space to achieve sustainable development especially in the most vulnerable developing countries.<\/p>\n

The Sustainability Week<\/strong> offered a broad platform<\/strong> for the Member States and stakeholders to reflect on ways to drive progress across the SDGs<\/strong> \u2013 especially for those most vulnerable countries \u2013 in a way that infuses a sustainability dimension.<\/p>\n

Today, this forum \u2013 the main UN platform for follow up and review the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development \u2013 is a pivotal moment, now<\/strong>, to take this progress forward and advance confident, optimistic action<\/strong>, among other things, to:\u00a0<\/p>\n
