GA HOLDS INFORMAL INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE WITH CANDIDATE TO LEAD 79th<\/sup> SESSION<\/strong><\/p>\n

The General Assembly is holding today the Informal Interactive Dialogue with the candidate for the Presidency of its 79th<\/sup> Session.<\/p>\n

H.E. Mr. Phil\u00e9mon Yang, from the Republic of Cameroon, presented his vision statement to Member States in the meeting presided over by the current President of the General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis.<\/p>\n

The candidate to lead the next session of the General Assembly spoke about his theme: \u201cUnity in diversity, for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for everyone everywhere\u201d.<\/p>\n

The interactive dialogue answers questions from Member States and regional groups but also from representatives of civil society.<\/p>\n

Mr. Yang was the Prime Minister of Cameroon from 2009 to 2019. He also served as Cameroon\u2019s High Commissioner to Canada (1984-2004).<\/p>\n

The election of the President of the General Assembly for the next session will be held on 6 June at the GA Hall.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

PGA DELIVERS MESSAGE ON ANNIVERSARY OF END OF SECOND WORLD WAR<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, issued a video message today to mark the Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives during the Second World War, 8-9 May.<\/p>\n

In his video message, President Francis recalled the \u201cuntold suffering of humankind\u201d and honoured the millions of people who perished.<\/p>\n

The PGA also urged everyone to reflect on the lessons of history.<\/p>\n

He highlighted the importance of the values that emerged from the end of the Second World War including dialogue, diplomacy, justice and equality.<\/p>\n

During the Second World War at least 40 million civilians were killed and 20 million soldiers and military personnel.<\/p>\n
