Today we commemorate the World food Day to honour the importance of food production in sustaining healthy life on our planet.<\/p>\n

I welcome this year\u2019s call to action: Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind.<\/p>\n
\n
As we mark this important day, let us be reminded that 2.4 billion people live in water-stressed countries.<\/p>\n
\n
The effects of pollution, ecosystem degradation, unsustainable practices and climate change are all placing the planet\u2019s precious water resources under increasing stress.<\/p>\n
\n
Food security is the cornerstone of sustainable development and goes hand-in-hand with water security.<\/p>\n
\n
Water forms the basis of our bodies, is essential to producing our food and supports nearly all aspects of our livelihoods.<\/p>\n
\n
Lack of access to clean, fresh water has worsened global food insecurity.<\/p>\n
With 800 million people in a state of chronic hunger today, the most sustainable way to improve food security is through improving access to clean water.<\/p>\n
\n
Together, let us pledge to save this precious resource and work much harder towards transforming food systems, investing in sustainable agricultural practices and drought-resistant nutritious crops, and mitigating the impacts of conflict on global food and water security.<\/p>\n
\n
Together, let us take water action in support of food systems.<\/p>\n
\n
Let us achieve zero hunger and food security.<\/p>\n
