ESS RESUMES<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 11th<\/sup> Emergency Special Session will resume next week.<\/p>\n

The ESS will resume on Monday, 14 November, at 10 AM ET in the GA Hall.<\/p>\n

The plenary meeting will consist of action on a draft resolution. There could be explanations of vote either before or after action is taken.<\/p>\n

The request to resume the ESS was made to President Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si in a letter dated 7 November from the Permanent Representatives of Canada, Guatemala, the Netherlands and Ukraine.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

TID(Y) UP PROJECT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Turning to sustainable development.<\/p>\n

President K\u0151r\u00f6si today spoke against plastics, which is found in all remote regions of the planet, from our groundwater to the stratosphere.<\/p>\n

In a video message to the Tid(y)Up Project conference, he invited participants \u2013 who include clean-up organizations and water and waste management professionals \u2013 to take part in the 2023 Water Conference in March.<\/p>\n

He said that humanity is at a watershed moment. We have to change course to save our home, this fragile globe, from our own destructive customs and practices.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

PROTECTING CHILDREN<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since we met yesterday, Member States adopted a resolution making 18 November as the World Day for Prevention of, and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence.<\/p>\n

The resolution was co-sponsored by 111 Member States, including the sponsors: Sierra Leone and Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Among its recommendations, the resolution calls for raising public awareness of those affected by child sexual abuse, and the need to prevent and eliminate child sexual exploitation, abuse and violence \u2013 online and offline.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

GA SCHEDULE TOMORROW <\/strong><\/p>\n

Let me share some upcoming items.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow the General Assembly will debate the report of the International Atomic Energy Agency \u2013 IAEA.<\/p>\n

THIRD COMMITTEE SCHEDULE THURSDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n

My OPGA human rights colleagues kindly shared the list of resolution for action in the Third Committee on Thursday.<\/p>\n

They are nine drafts in three categories: the advancement of women; the right of peoples to self-determination; and the human rights questions, including alternative approaches for improving the effective enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms.<\/p>\n

              BILATERALS<\/strong><\/p>\n

              President K\u0151r\u00f6si met this morning with the European Union Heads of Missions. The focus was on priority issues of the General Assembly, including follow-up on Our Common Agenda.<\/p>\n

              A short while ago, the President met with C-10, the group of African Countries on Security Council Reform coordinated by Ambassador Alhaji Fanday Turay, the Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

              This afternoon, President K\u0151r\u00f6si will meet with L.69, a\u00a0Group of Developing Countries, which includes representatives from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific, with common positions on Security Council reform.<\/p>\n

              The President then has a meeting with Ambassador Claver Gatete, the Permanent Representative of Rwanda, and Ambassador Karin Enestrom, the Permanent Representative of Sweden, to discuss the intergovernmental process of the Digital Global Compact of which they were selected as co-facilitators.<\/p>\n

               <\/p>\n

              QUESTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n
