ABDULAZIZ PRIZE FOR WATER

President Csaba Kőrösi today reiterated the importance of finding scientific solutions to the question of water.

He again stressed that climate change is appearing to us and hitting us, primarily as a water crisis.

The comments were made to the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water ceremony, held today in Vienna.

This is an international award with a focus on water-related innovation, meant to encourage research in finding solutions to water-related issues.

CREDENTIALS COMMITTEE

I’ve been asked a lot about the Credentials Committee.

I can tell you that the General Assembly will take up the report of the Credentials Committee this Friday, 16 December, in the afternoon.

The morning session will be devoted – as you know – to the high-level event for the launch of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages.

ACCESSIBILITY COMMITTEE

President Kőrösi today is meeting with the Steering Committee on Accessibility, chaired by the representatives from the Permanent Mission of Antigua and Barbuda, and the United States.

This is the Committee’s first meeting of the 77th session.

The President is taking part in the meeting, as part of his office’s joint responsibility to make sure the UNHQ premises are accessible for persons with disabilities, in accordance with the guidelines of the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy.

WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE

And turning to tomorrow, 14 December, President Kőrösi will speak to the Security Council in an open debate entitled “New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism”.

The President will then address you at the Security Council stakeout. That’s expected between 12pm and 1pm.

In the context of the Security Council meeting, President Kőrösi today is meeting with the Foreign Minister of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. As well as the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. Yamada Kenji.

Also today, the President is meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Honduras, Eduardo Enrique Reina.

SECOND COMMITTEE

And I was asked yesterday about when the General Assembly will hear reports of the Second Committee – which deals with economic and financial issues. That will be tomorrow, Wednesday at 3PM ET.

QUESTION

The Spokesperson was asked when the General Assembly would consider the Fourth Committee’s resolution on ICJ? The Spokesperson replied that given the financial implications, the Fifth Committee need first review the draft. It would then go to the General Assembly at the end of December, at the time that the budget is discussed.
