The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with\u00a0H.E.\u00a0Sirojiddin\u00a0Muhriddin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan\u00a0pledged the continued support of\u00a0Tajikistan\u00a0to the Office of the President of the General Assembly, including for \u00a0specific priorities identified by President Shahid for the 76th session; \u00a0agreed on the importance of keeping the United Nations Headquarters open for in-person diplomacy; and to strengthen the role of the General Assembly. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The President\u00a0underlined the necessity of achieving vaccine equity by the end of 2022, as the first step to build back better from the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Both sides also discussed other relevant topics, such as sustainable development especially in relation to water issues, climate issues, and regional issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The President\u00a0met\u00a0the Minister\u00a0via online\u00a0from his\u00a0office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.<\/p>\n
