International Migration Review Forum

As per General Assembly Resolution 73/195, the President of the General Assembly will convene the first International Migration Review Forum from 17-20 May 2022. The Forum serves as the primary intergovernmental global platform for Member States to assess and deliberate on implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, including as it relates to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

OVERVIEW

The Forum will consist of four interactive multi-stakeholder roundtables during the first day and the morning of the second day. This will be followed by a policy debate in the afternoon of the second day. The plenary will take place on the third and fourth days. The Forum will be preceded by a one-day, informal, interactive, multi-stakeholder hearing on the 16th of May.

Informal Multi-stakeholder Hearing

Pursuant to operative paragraph 15 of General Assembly resolution 73/326 entitled “Format and organizational aspects of the international migration review forums,” President of the General Assembly will organize an informal interactive multi-stakeholder hearing with all relevant stakeholders one day prior to the inaugural International MigrationReviewHearing Forum, on 16 May 2022, in Conference Room 4, United Nations Headquarters.

Special accreditation for the first International Migration Review Forum (IMRF)

The President of the General Assembly drew up a list of other representatives of relevant non-governmental organizations, academic, scientific and knowledge-based institutions, the private sector, trade unions, faith-based, migrant and youth organizations, diaspora communities and other relevant stakeholders, who may attend and participate in the Forum, taking into account the principles of transparency and equitable geographical representation, with due regard to the meaningful participation of women. The President of the General Assembly submitted the proposed list to Member States for their consideration, in accordance with resolution 73/326.

Briefing on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration: Report of the Secretary-General

As part of the preparatory process ahead of the IMRF, and under paragraph 14 of General Assembly resolution 73/326, the President of the General Assembly, in collaboration with the United Nations Network on Migration, will convene a Briefing on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration: Report of the Secretary-General, was held on 16 February 2022, in the General Assembly Hall.

The Secretary General´s report, its findings, and recommendations on ensuring safe, orderly, and regular migration were presented during this briefing.
