The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Mr. Ulisses Correia e Silva, Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, on the sidelines of the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon.

 

The President of the General Assembly expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Correia e Silva for attending the Ocean Conference and noted the importance of the event for big-ocean states like Cabo Verde and the Maldives. President Shahid also affirmed his confidence on the success of the Ocean Conference and noted that the event would add a much-needed new chapter of global ocean action.

 

Prime Minister Correia e Silva thanked the President of the General Assembly for providing a strong voice in support of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and highlighted Cabo Verde’s environmental priorities. Furthermore, the Prime Minister hoped that the planned Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) would allow for the recognition of the specificities of SIDS in their quest for sustainable development.

 

The meeting took place in the office of the President of the General Assembly at the Ocean Conference main venue in Lisbon.
