Readout of the meeting between the President of the General Assembly and the President of the Human Rights Council

The President of the 76^th Session of the General Assembly H.E. Abdulla Shahid met today with H. E. Ambassador Federico Villegas, President of the Human Rights Council. 

President Shahid thanked the President of the Human Rights Council for the invitation to address the high-level commemorative event on the occasion of the 50^th session of the Human Rights Council and commended the efforts of Ambassador Villegas in steering the work of the Council. He also thanked President Villegas for meeting in Geneva with PGA’s fellows for HOPE. 

Ambassador Villegas briefed the President of the General Assembly on the work of the Human Rights Council and the need to strengthening its role. 

Both sides also discussed other topics such as the follow-up on the implementation of “Our Common Agenda” report, review of status of the human rights council, strengthening synergy between New York and Geneva. 

The meeting took place at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva.
