Readout of the meeting between the President of the General Assembly and the Assistant High-Commissioner for Protection and Officer in Charge of the Office of the United Nation High- Commissioner for Refugees

The President of the 76^th Session of the General Assembly H.E. Abdulla Shahid met today with Ms. Gillian Triggs, Assistant High-Commissioner for Protection and Officer in Charge of the Office of the United Nation High-Commissioner for Refugees.

The President of the General Assembly briefed Ms. Triggs on the priorities of his Presidency of Hope and commended the Office of the High-Commissioner for Refugees on the efforts undertaken to alleviate the suffering of refugees.

Ms. Triggs thanked the President for his leadership of the General Assembly on gender equality and the participation of youth and his support to the campaign “I Belong” to end statelessness. 

Both sides exchanged views on issues related to current humanitarian crises in the world, in particular in Ukraine, and discussed the implementation of the “Our Common Agenda” report.

The meeting took place at the UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva.
