Readout of the meeting between the President of the General Assembly and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan

The President of the 76^th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Foreign Minister of Pakistan.

The President congratulated the Minister on his recent assumption of the post of the Foreign Minister, and thanked Pakistan for its leadership in the United Nations, including as Chair of the Group of 77 and China, and within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. He commended Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, leadership in countering Islamophobia, and contribution to UN processes including the Our Common Agenda.

The Minister thanked the President and reiterated the support of Pakistan to the President’s Presidency of Hope and commended the President’s numerous efforts at improving the functioning of the United Nations General Assembly.

Both sides also discussed other relevant topics such as regional security, United Nations reform and multilateralism.

The meeting took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
