Readout of meeting between President of General Assembly and Director-General of the International Organization for Migration and Coordinator of the U.N. Network on Migration

The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met with H.E. Mr. António Vitorino, Director-General of the International Organization for Migration and Coordinator of the U.N. Network on Migration to discuss the inaugural International Migration Review Forum, which takes place from 17 – 18 May, preceded by the informal interactive multi-stakeholder hearing

The President and the Director General agreed that the IMRF constitutes a historic opportunity to bring together Member States, the UN system, and relevant stakeholders around the issue of migration, to share successes and areas for further progress relating to implementing the Global Compact for Safe Orderly and Regular Migration and, more generally, fostering stronger international cooperation on migration governance.

The President thanked the UN Network on Migration for the support extended to the Office of the President of the General Assembly in coordinating the IMRF.

The meeting took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
