Meeting between the President of the General Assembly and the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, its Causes and Consequences

The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr Abdulla Shahid, met with H.E Ms. Reem Alsalem, UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, its Causes and Consequences on 18 March 2022.

The President thanked Ms. Alsalem for her valuable participation in the opening segment of PGA’s Special Event on Ending Violence Against Women in Politics held on 15th March 2022, and for serving as a member of the President’s Advisory Board on Gender Equality.

Ms. Reem Alsalem briefed the President on her mandate and key priorities relating to her future reports and activities. They also discussed issues pertaining to violence against women and girls in the context of climate crisis and eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls, particularly against older and indigenous women and girls.

The meeting took place at the Office of the President of the General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
