Meeting between the President of the General Assembly and President of Global Initiative on Ageing Foundation (GIAF)

The President of the 76^th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Mr. Luis Gallegos, President of Global Initiative on Ageing Foundation (GIAF) and former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador.

Mr. Gallegos briefed the President of the General Assembly on the Global Initiative on Ageing Foundation aimed at supporting the achievement of the goals settled for the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing as well as SDGs.

The President of the General Assembly thanked Mr. Luis Gallegos for his work and tireless efforts in the field of strengthening the protection and promotion of the rights of older persons.

Both sides discussed also how to advance the issue of ageing on the UN agenda, coordination within UN institutions to develop global capacities on ageing as well as the upcoming meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on Ageing.

The meeting took place in the President’s office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
