The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid met today with H.E Mr. Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, and H.E Ms. Erna Solberg, former Prime Minister of Norway – Co-Chairs of the High-Level Panel of Experts to the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index.

The panel has been tasked to carry forward the work to finalize the multidimensional vulnerability index (MVI) as mandated by General Assembly resolution 76/203 dated 17 December 2021.

The President expressed his strong appreciation to the co-chairs and commended them for their leadership and advocacy, and for their commitment to the work that lies ahead. He also underscored that the work on the MVI is an important exercise with significant and lasting implications.

The co-chairs shared their views on the importance of the work of the panel and on capturing the different vulnerabilities encountered by SIDS.

The Secretariat supporting the panel made a presentation of the proposed work programme.

The President met the two co-chairs virtually from his office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
