The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women, H.E. Hala Bint Mohammed Jaber Al Ansari.
President Shahid reaffirmed his commitment to advocating gender equality and women’s empowerment during his Presidency of Hope. He applauded Bahrain’s progress in terms of gender equality and women empowerment, including the increase in percentage of women in the workforce and in key decision-making positions.
H.E Hala Bint Mohammed Jaber Al Ansari elaborated on the systematic approach the council takes towards empowering women, measuring their progress through keeping track of key statistics.
President Shahid and Secretary General Al Ansari discussed the role of women in dealing with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and respective initiatives to achieve gender equality.
The meeting took place virtually.
