Today, the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, had a coordination meeting with H.E. Ambassador Abdou Abarry, Permanent Representative of Niger to the United Nations in his capacity as the President of the Security Council for the month of December.

Ambassador Abarry briefed the PGA on the programme of work of the Security Council during Niger’s Presidency in December, highlighting its only signature event, “Maintenance of International Peace and Security in the face of terrorism and climate change”, that will be chaired by the President of Niger.

Both sides discussed the need for greater in-person participation of Member States in the meetings of the Security Council and exchanged views on the priorities of the PGA, including ensuring COVID-19 vaccine equity.

President Shahid wished Ambassador Abarry a successful presidency and said he is looking forward to closer coordination between the General Assembly and the Security Council in the month of December.
