The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met with Mr. Li Keqiang, the Premier of China, during his visit to China. 

 

H.E. Mr. Li Keqiang praised the role of the United Nations in promoting world peace and sustainable development. He stressed China’s commitment to multilateralism, and support to the central role of the United Nations in the multilateral system. He assured of China’s continued commitment to promote the collective agenda in the areas of environment protection, sustainable development, climate change in the context of the United Nations.

 

The President expressed his appreciation for China’s valuable contributions to the United Nations and firm support to his presidency. He called on China to continue taking initiatives on South-South cooperation, action on climate, and promoting the recovery of the world from pandemic. He also expressed his support to a successful second phase of the COP 15 on Biodiversity to be held in Kunming, in the development, adoption and implementation of an effective post-2020 global biodiversity framework.

 

Both sides also discussed other relevant topics, such as global recovery, protection of the environment, multilateralism and revitalization of the United Nations.

 

The meeting took place virtually in Huzhou, China.
