Good afternoon, All!

PGA announces 16 members of the Board of Advisors on LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS

The GA President has informed Member States that he has reconstituted the Board of Advisers on Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developed Countries, and the Small Island Developing States.

Mr. Abdulla Shahid appointed 16 representatives, who were selected based on organizational representation, their experience on development issues, relevance to LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS related discussions. Mr. Shahid also considered regional and gender representation.

The PGA said that these countries are at the greatest risk of losing an entire generation’s worth of hard-won development gains owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and its related socio-economic impacts.  These countries are also at most significant risk due to environmental degradation and other factors.

Mr. Abdulla Shahid firmly believes that the success of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development depends on action which are taken now to address the issues with LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS.

The Board of Advisors has 16 members including seven Permanent Representatives to the UN, the Under-Secretary-General in charge of the Department for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr. Liu Zhenmin, the High-Representative for LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS, Mr. Courtenay Rattray, and other UN officials, and the Senior Vice President of the UN Foundation, Ms. Sofia Borges.
