On 30 September 2021, the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, held an in-person coordination meeting with H.E. Ambassador Martin Kimani, Permanent Representative of Kenya to the UN and the President of the Security Council for the month of October 2021.

Ambassador Kimani briefed the President on the programme of work of the Security Council during Kenya`s Presidency in October, highlighting the upcoming high-level open debates on peacebuilding and sustaining peace featuring the link between identity and statebuilding as well as on women, peace and security (WPS) with a focus on the local contribution of women in peacekeeping and peacebuilding. The two Presidents also discussed the priorities of the PGA, in addressing climate change and rebuilding sustainably, to which Ambassador Kimani expressed Kenya’s full support.

President Shahid commended Kenya’s efforts in the UN to advance the issue of green agenda, fighting against racism and standing for diversity. He wished Ambassador Kimani all the best for his endeavors as president of the Security Council for the month of October.
