Today, President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid met with H.E. the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada. 

They discussed the importance of multilateralism, and in particular of the General Assembly, on addressing issues such as climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, gender equality and youth.

 President Shahid highlighted the role of Canada on promoting democracy, rule of law, good governance and human rights around the world. He also appraised Minister Garneau for the support of his country to Small Island Developing States.

 Minister Garneau supported the priorities identified by President for the 76th session of the General Assembly and congratulated him for launching the PGA’s Youth Fellowship Programme.

 The meeting took place in the President’s office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
