United Nations, New York, 23 June 2021 – The President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkır, will travel to Kenya, from 28 June to 1 July, and to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan 4 to 10 July.

The President will be received in Nairobi by H.E Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya, will meet bilaterally with the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works, James Wainaina Macharia and other high-level officials. The President will deliver remarks at the opening segment of the High-Level Mid-Term Review Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to UN-Habitat. His statement will address the need for urban environments to build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic to build a more resilient and sustainable world for all.

The President will also meet with Ms. Zainab Hawa Bangura, the Under-Secretary-General and Director-General of the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, the Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Ms. Inger Andersen, UN Environment Programme Executive Director, Ms. Agnes Kalibata, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to the 2021 Food Systems Summit as well as the representatives of the UN Country Team in Kenya.

In the Central Asian region, the President will be received by H.E. Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, H.E. Mr. Sadyr Zhaparov, President of Kyrgyzstan, H.E. Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan, and H.E. Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan. Further bilateral meetings will also be held in these countries.   While in the Central Asian region, the President will focus attention on the socio-economic recovery from COVID-19 and the need to build back better, gender equality, and the need to accelerate the pace of digitization across the region. The President will also discuss regional security and environmental concerns, including climate change.
