The President of the 75th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkir, met today with H.E. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of Portuguese Republic and H.E. Mr. Augusto Santos Silva, Minister of State and for Foreign Affairs.

The President thanked President de Sousa of Portugal for his personal presence at the UN, despite COVID related limitations and concerns, which reflected Portuguese commitment to multilateralism and most importantly to the United Nations. Among others prominent issues, President Volkan Bozkir appreciated the Portuguese continued role on the Ocean agenda, including for hosting the second UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon in 2022. The Presidents discussed Portugal’s commitment to the international climate and environmental agenda. 

They also discussed global pandemic recovery and the President Volkan Bozkir reinforced the importance of multilateral action to enable Vaccines for all.

The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
