The President of the 75th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkir, met today with H.E. Mr. Riad Al-Malki, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine.

They discussed the current situation in Palestine and today’s General Assembly debate, which was being held under the agenda items on “The situation in the Middle East” and “Question of Palestine”.

The President expressed his deep concern over the ongoing violence and loss of innocent civilian lives, including children, in the occupied Palestinian territory and Gaza. He stressed the need for the United Nations system with all its principal organs to work in harmony in the face of attacks against civilians and places of worship and violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law.

He also said that the General Assembly would always remain open for discussions on the plight of the Palestinian people. He noted that he remained ready to convene formal meetings on this topic when requested to do so by Member States.

The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
