Statement by H.E. Volkan Bozkir, President of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly

Excellencies,

Ladies and gentlemen,

The UN Charter continues to be the backbone of the United Nations. I am pleased that this opportunity has been used to demonstrate our continued commitment to the pillars and principles of the United Nations, as outlined in the Charter.

My sincere appreciation to the group of women Permanent Representatives for leading this effort. Only 4 of the 850 delegates who met in San Francisco 75 years ago were women. Today we have 52 women PRs in the UN General Assembly. While still underrepresented, it is a powerful statement.
