Abdelghani Merabet is a Senior Adviser and Team Leader on issues related to Sustainable Development. He\u00a0leads on the Second Committee (GA), the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as well as the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF).\u00a0<\/span>Additionally, he serves as liaison with the G77 and China.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n During the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, Abdelghani was a Senior Adviser and Team Coordinator on issues related to United Nations reform processes, revitalization of the General Assembly, budget and management in the Office of the President of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Previously, Abdelghani served in the Offices of the President of the UN General Assembly of the\u00a069th<\/sup>, 70th,\u00a071st<\/sup>\u00a0and 72nd Sessions\u00a0as a senior adviser in charge of a range of issues related to climate change, oceans, water, biodiversity, land degradation and desertification as well as budgetary and financial matters.<\/span><\/p>\n Before joining the Office of the President of the General Assembly, he served at the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations in New York, from 2009 to 2013, mainly covering Second and Third Committee issues. He was elected as Vice-Chairperson of the 19th<\/sup>\u00a0Session of the Commission on Sustainable Development. He also was the Algerian chief negotiator chairing the Group of 77 and China during the Rio+20 Summit on sustainable development, held in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. The same year, he chaired the Group during the Sessions of Second Committee, as well as the Economic and Social Council.\u00a0 He also served as national focal point of Algeria to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).<\/span><\/p>\n Abdelghani worked for the Ministry of Finance of Algeria for five years before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2006, where he began his diplomatic career in the Department of Economic Relations and International Cooperation.<\/span><\/p>\n His academic background includes a specialization in Economics and Finance from the\u00a0Ecole Nationale d\u2019Administration\u00a0of Algiers and two postgraduate degrees, one in Political Science with a major in defense and international security from the University Jean Moulin in Lyon, France, and one on diplomacy and international relations from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, United States of America.<\/span><\/p>\n Abdelghani speaks Arabic, French, English and Spanish.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div> Abdelghani Merabet is a Senior Adviser and Team Leader on issues related to Sustainable Development.
