UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT TO VISIT

IRELAND

United Nations, New York, 27 November 2019 –The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande will travel to Dublin, Ireland on Wednesday 27 November 2019, to participate in the Peacekeeping Perspectives and Peacebuilding Progress and Prospects conferences as part of his priority of peace and security. This is his first official visit to Ireland as President of the seventy-fourth session of the General Assembly. 

During the visit, the President is expected to highlight his priorities for the 74th Session, mobilize support for multilateralism and rule based systems as the most potent avenues for fostering dialogue and proffering solution to global problems, galvanize momentum for the  commemoration of the 75TH Anniversary of the United Nations in 2020, necessity of international cooperation to advance peacekeeping and peacebuilding.  

The President will also interact with youth at the University of Maynooth, and the National Youth Council of Ireland; and participate in a visit to a farm and food-producing facility. 

During his visit, H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande will meet with H.E. Michael D. Higgins,  President of Ireland, H.E. Simon Coveney T.D., Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) and Minister of Foreign Affairs), and H.E. Mary Robinson, Chair of the Elders.  

H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande will depart Ireland on Saturday 30 November 2019. The President will be accompanied by Senior Adviser on Peace and Security, Mr. Eugenio Vargas Garcia, the Special Assistant to the Chef de Cabinet, Mr. Faisal M. Ibrahim, and Speechwriter Orla Murphy.  

Travel costs will be covered by the Government of Ireland.
