H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, President of the 74th Session of the General Assembly, held bilateral discussions today, 24 October 2019, with the H.E. Elmer Mammadyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Both leaders acknowledged Azerbaijan’s efforts at hosting the 18th Summit of heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (25-26 October 2019) and praised the progress made by the Movement in advancing the cause of multilateral engagement and promoting international dialogue and cooperation.

Azerbaijan Foreign Minister thanked the President of the General Assembly for attending the Summit and emphasized the important role of the Movement as a platform for strengthening international cooperation within the context of South-South Cooperation and that of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable development.

The President of the General Assembly congratulated Azerbaijan on its assumption of the Chairmanship of NAM for the next three years. He wished the country a successful tenure. Both leaders called for synergy between the Movement and G-77 in facilitating the realization of the goals of sustainable development. The President particularly noted with delight that his trip to Azerbaijan coincided with the celebration this year’s UN Day.
