The President of the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, held a bilateral meeting with Ms. Gabriela Cuevas-Barron, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in the margins of the High Level Ministerial week.
They exchanged views on how Parliaments can contribute together with the UN to strengthen multilateralism, foster the implementation of SDGs, notably by transforming international commitments into national action through legislation, and generate new ways of financing development and poverty eradication.
Ms. Cueva-Barron invited the PGA to attend the World Speakers Conference in Vienna on 19-21 August 2020 and both interlocutors agreed to co-host the annual hearing of the IPU at the UN at the beginning of next year.
