READOUT: meeting with the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa

The President of the 74^th Session of the UN General Assembly, H. E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, held a meeting with the H. E. Dr. Naledi Pandor, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa. Dr. Pandor expressed delight with the theme for the 74^th session of the General Assembly, which she described as timely and an opportunity to recommit to important obligations.

She disclosed that South Africa’s presence in the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member would focus on issues such as Women Peace and Security and UN Reform. She further disclosed that South Africa will pursue a similar agenda in Africa when it assumes the position of Chair of the African Union in 2020. President Muhammad-Bande welcomed the presence of South Africa in the Security Council and called for unity of purpose among the African representatives in the UN Security Council.
