The President of the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly, H. E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, held a meeting with the H. E. Dr. Naledi Pandor, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa. Dr. Pandor expressed delight with the theme for the 74th session of the General Assembly, which she described as timely and an opportunity to recommit to important obligations.

She disclosed that South Africa’s presence in the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member would focus on issues such as Women Peace and Security and UN Reform. She further disclosed that South Africa will pursue a similar agenda in Africa when it assumes the position of Chair of the African Union in 2020. President Muhammad-Bande welcomed the presence of South Africa in the Security Council and called for unity of purpose among the African representatives in the UN Security Council.
