Faisal Mohammed Ibrahim is the Special Adviser to the Chef de Cabinet in the Office of the President of the 74th Session of the General Assembly.

Faisal is a Counsellor in the Nigerian Foreign Service and previously served in the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations: covering Elections, First Committee, the Security Council; and was the Coordinator of the African Group on matters relating to Disarmament and International Security. He also coordinated the candidatures of the Economic Community of West African States to UN bodies in New York.

He was a member of the group of government experts tasked with considering and recommending substantial elements of an internationally legal binding instrument on the prevention of an arms race in outer space, including the prevention of placement of weapons in outer space. Faisal is actively engaged in the Track 1.5 Initiative of the Nuclear Transparency Initiative, focused on strengthening the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Prior to this, Faisal was seconded to the Presidency (the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation), in the Office of the Permanent Secretary on Political & Economic (PEAO) and the Office of the Chairman of the National Authority of Chemical & Biological Weapons Convention (NACBWC).

Having joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2010, he has also served in the International Organisations Department, the Trade and Investment Division and the North and Horn of Africa Division. Faisal has also been posted to the Nigerian High Commission in London, United Kingdom.

Prior to that he had a brief stint in the Banking Sector from 2009 – 2010.

Faisal served in the Nigerian Army (Signal) from 2002-2009. He holds a BSc in Political Science from the University of Maiduguri and a Masters in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
