I would like to say that my colleague Mark Seddon and I have just had a meeting with the President of the General Assembly, and she asked me to convey her thanks to you for the great cooperation we had last year. We are looking forward to continuing our working relationship with you\u00a0this year. As Ms. Espinosa\u00a0has said here before,\u00a0the role of the media is crucial for the work of\u00a0the office of the PGA and in particular in \u2018Making the UN Relevant to All People\u2019\u00a0and her\u00a0seven\u00a0priorities, so we look forward to working with you this year, which will be a very busy year. And talking about a busy year, let\u2019s start with our first note.<\/p>\n
GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO HOST A HIGH-LEVEL DEBATE ON INTERNATIONAL MIGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n
President Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa will preside over a high-level debate on\u00a0International Migration and Development on 27 February 2019,\u00a0in\u00a0the ECOSOC Chamber. This meeting is mandated by the General Assembly and will be organized under the auspices of the President of the General Assembly, in lieu of the 2019 High-level Dialogue. The meeting will serve to\u00a0inform the high-level political forum on sustainable development, which will review the goals and targets relevant to migration of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, taking into consideration the outcomes of other processes related to international migration and development.\u00a0<\/p>\n
PGA APPOINTS CO-FACILITATORS FOR MIGRATION REVIEW FORUM<\/strong><\/p>\n
The President of the General Assembly has appointed the Ambassadors of Spain, H.E. Agust\u00edn Santor Maraver, and of Bangladesh, H.E. Masud Bin Momen as co-facilitators for the International Migration Review Forum. They\u00a0will lead open, transparent and inclusive consultations with Member States to determine the modalities and organizational aspects of the International Migration Review Forums, as requested by the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. The modalities shall be finalized by 31 July 2019. This was informed in a letter to Member States, on 21 December.<\/p>\n
CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD TO MARK 30TH\u00a0<\/sup>ANNIVERSARY IN 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n
The General Assembly will commemorate the 30th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, this year, by convening a\u00a0high-level plenary meeting of the seventy-fourth session of the General Assembly. To help with consultations with Member States on the organizational and procedural arrangements, Ms. Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa appointed H.E. Mr. Georgi Velikov Panayotov, Ambassador of Bulgaria, and H.E. Ms. Maleeha Lodhi, Ambassador of Pakistan to co-facilitate an open and transparent consultative process with Member States to finalize the modalities resolution for the high-level plenary meeting.<\/p>\n
