Raquel Martins

Raquel Martins is the Special Assistant to the Chef de Cabinet of the President of the General Assembly and the focal point for Security Council Reform.

Before joining the Office of the President of the General Assembly she was posted at the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the United Nations, in New York. During this period she focused on issues related to peace and security, conflict prevention, peacebuilding and sustaining peace, elections, multilingualism, Committee on Information and the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP).

A Portuguese diplomat, she has held different positions in the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Furthermore, between 2011 and 2014, she was diplomatic adviser to the President of the Portuguese Republic and was bestowed with the “Ordem de Cristo” decoration by the President.

She holds degrees in Law and in Modern Languages and Literature and postgraduate degrees in Public Law and in European Studies from the University of Coimbra. Aside from Portuguese (mother tongue), she is fluent in English, has advanced knowledge of Spanish and French and basic knowledge of German.
