Katharina Kandt is an adviser on communications and digital media in the Office of the President of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Katharina has served as an adviser on communication, digital and social media and strategy in the office of the President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly. She also advised on youth and water-related issues and co-organized the Youth Dialogue and the High-level launch of the International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028. During her time in the office, she worked on strategic communications, outreach, branding and exhibitions for the Presidency; a portfolio she also covered during the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly. Besides, digital and social media, she also worked on strategic communications, outreach, branding and exhibitions for The Ocean Conference, the series of five SDG Action events, and all mission trips. Additionally, she served as a supporting speechwriter for the President.
In the Office of the President of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly, Katharina worked on external communications. With a strong background in strategic and digital communications, she focused on the President’s web and social media presence, helped organizing the first-ever televised debate with candidates for the position of the UN Secretary-General and played an integral role in the successful execution of the first-ever Digital Media Zone, now SDG Media Zone, at the United Nations.
Katharina joined the United Nations in New York in 2015 working in the evaluation and communications research unit within the Department of Public Information. In previous positions in Europe, she gained experience in research on gender equality and diversity, website management, social media, outreach, public relations, advertising and publishing. She has worked with civil society as well as the private and public sectors.
Katharina has a Masters degree in Communications from Sciences Po Paris in France and a Bachelors degree in Media Management from the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, in Germany.
She speaks German, English, French and some Spanish.
