PRESS BRIEFING BY MONICA GRAYLEY, SPOKESPERSON FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT MARÍA FERNANDA ESPINOSA

Good afternoon, everyone!

PGA’S OFFICE STARTS SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN WITH HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT ON SDG’S SUMMIT

As part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit, the Office of the President of the General Assembly has just launched a social media campaign with Member States on accelerated action to achieve the 2030 Agenda.

The PGA’s Office is working closely with colleagues in DESA, the Office of the Deputy Secretary-General, as well as the Department of Global Communications to amplify messaging around the SDGs, particularly efforts to accelerate action.

In the lead up to the Summit, Heads of State and Government have been submitting quotes to be shared across social media platforms. These have already begun, with quotes from the Bahamas and Norway having gone out over the last few days.

These quotes will come approximately 1-2 times per day through to the start of the campaign.

In addition to the social media campaign, the organizers are facilitating the SDG Media Zone and VIP Zone where world leaders and other dignitaries can speak through social media or with journalists directly.

PGA’S AGENDA

This morning, the PGA met the Ambassador of Slovakia, H.E. Mr. Michal Mlynár, and the Permanent Representative of Jordan, H.E. Ms. Sima Bahous, on the question of the revitalization of the work of the General Assembly. Both ambassadors are co-facilitators of the ad hoc working group on this subject. She later granted an interview to Xinhua TV and held a separate bilateral meeting with the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN, H.E. Mr. Jonathan Cohen.

This is all from us. Do you have anything else?
