PRESS BRIEFING BY MONICA GRAYLEY, SPOKESPERSON FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT MARÍA FERNANDA ESPINOSA

Hello, everyone!

PGA CALLS ON INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO ACT QUICKLY FOLLOWING DROWNING OF MIGRANTS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA

The PGA is appalled to hear the news on the death of approximately 150 migrants in the Mediterranean Sea off Libya. Among the dead are women and children.

Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa says that this situation is intolerable. The GA President expresses sorrow for the loss of lives.

She calls on the international community to cooperate, to show solidarity and to act quickly in order to avoid this horrendous loss of lives.

Migrants, as any other person, should be able to have their rights protected and not exposed to such deadly perils, says the PGA.
