UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT TRAVELS TO BRUSSELS AND HELSINKI
The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Ms. Maria Fernanda Espinosa will undertake travels to Brussels and Helsinki from 2 -7 March.
The President will first travel to Belgium, where she will address the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, in Brussels. H.E. María Fernanda Espinosa will meet leaders of the European Union as well as Belgian authorities and members of the UN Country Team. She will address the Political and Security Committee of the European Union and hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Commission, H.E. Jean-Claude Juncker.
She will additionally hold bilateral meetings with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, Ms. Federica Mogherini; the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Work, Economy and Foreign Trade, H.E Kris Peeters, and the President of the Board of the Foreign Ministry, H.E. Bruno van der Pluijm.
From Brussels, the President will travel to Helsinki on 5 March, where she will take part in the First International Symposium on Youth Participation in Peace Processes. The President will also hold bilateral meetings with the Speaker of the Parliament, Ms. Paula Risikko and the Foreign Minister of Finland, Mr Timo Soini; and attend a meeting on “Decent Work” with Finnish civil society and trade union representatives.
The President will return on 7 March.
To Belgium, the President will travel with a Senior Adviser, her Communication Adviser, a Coordination Officer and her personal assistant. Travel costs are being covered by the PGA’s office trust fund.
To Helsinki, the delegation includes a Senior Adviser, an Adviser on Youth, Peace and Security, a Communication Adviser, Coordination Officer and the President’s personal assistant. Travel costs are covered by the Republic of Finland.
