PRESIDENT ESPINOSA TO TRAVEL TO GENEVA TO ATTEND 40THSESSION OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL

The President of the General Assembly, María Fernanda Espinosa, will travel to Geneva on Friday to take part in the High-Level Segment of the 40th session of the Human Rights Council, where she will deliver a statement at the formal opening of the Session.

The PGA will also participate in the Annual high-level panel discussion on human rights under the theme; “Human rights in the light of multilateralism: opportunities, challenges and the way forward”.

In Geneva, the PGA will hold bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister and Minister for Itaukei Affairs, Sugar Industry and Foreign Affairs of Fiji; the First Vice-President of Costa Rica; the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Uruguay; the Director-General of the World Health Organization; the President of the Human Rights Council; the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; and the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Also, while in Geneva, the PGA will speak to national media outlets.

The PGA’s delegation includes an adviser, her personal assistant and her Spokeswoman. All travel costs are being covered by the PGA’s office trust fund.

Ms. Espinosa will return to New York on Tuesday 26 February.
