REFORMS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Yesterday evening, the General Assembly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/press\/en\/2018\/ga12039.doc.htm\">adopted 25 resolutions and 1 decision<\/a> from its Fifth Committee. It agreed to management and peace and security architecture reforms aimed at streamlining the Organization\u2019s operations.<\/li>\n<li>It also authorized the allocation of $6.69\u00a0billion to finance UN peacekeeping missions from 1\u00a0July\u00a02018 to 30\u00a0June\u00a02019.<\/li>\n<li>The Assembly also established a single rate of reimbursement to troop- and police-contributing countries.<\/li>\n<li>President Laj\u010d\u00e1k <a href=\"\/pga\/72?p=163344\">told the Assembly<\/a> that it had helped to strengthen multilateralism by equipping the United Nations with the necessary tools to better deliver its work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PRESIDENT TO MEET WITH SECURITY COUNCIL HEAD &amp; \u201cYOUNG U.N.\u201d GROUP<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>President Laj\u010d\u00e1k will meet this afternoon with Ambassador Olof Skoog, Permanent Representative of Sweden to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of July.<\/li>\n<li>This is the regular monthly meeting that is held between the Presidents of the General Assembly and Security Council.<\/li>\n<li>The President will also meet with \u201cYoung UN\u201d, a network of hundreds of young professionals working across the UN system. Their aim is to bring innovative new ideas into the UN.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>GLOBAL COMPACT FOR MIGRATION: LAST ROUND OF TALKS STARTS ON MONDAY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Member States are reaching the end of their negotiations on the first ever Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. The topic was: \u201cPower and strength or a shared order?\u201d<\/li><li>President Laj\u010d\u00e1k said there has been a move away from multilateral values and systems, and more voices speaking out against the United Nations.<\/li><li>He added that it was possible to reject the idea of compromise for common goals but asked what the alternative would be. Speaking of the biggest challenges facing us today, he said no one can go up against them alone.<\/li><li>While in Finland yesterday, President Laj\u010d\u00e1k met with Finnish officials, including the President, with whom he discussed global politics and multilateralism; the Interior Minister, with whom he discussed migration and counter-terrorism; and the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, with whom he discussed financing for the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/li><li>Today in Finland, he met with the country\u2019s Foreign Minister. They spoke about Finland\u2019s leadership in the fields of mediation and conflict prevention, as well as other issues on the United Nations agenda, including migration.<\/li><li>Climate change was another topic that came up during his meeting with Finland\u2019s Speaker of Parliament and the Chairperson of the Parliament Group for Global Issues.<\/li><li>He also visited a reception center in Helsinki for asylum seekers, where he heard personal stories from people who had left their countries.<\/li><\/ul><h3><strong>DOCUMENT ON SECURITY COUNCIL REFORM SHARED WITH MEMBER STATES<\/strong><\/h3><ul><li>On Security Council reform, the President has circulated to Member States a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/72\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2018\/06\/pga-letter-ign-1.pdf\">final version of the document<\/a> entitled \u201cRevised Elements of Commonality and Issues for Further Consideration\u201d.<\/li><li>In terms of next steps, the President will soon circulate to Member States a draft roll-over decision.<\/li><\/ul><h3><strong>NO DATE YET FOR 5<sup>TH<\/sup> COMMITTEE CONSIDERATION OF G.S.D.M.
