STATEMENT BY H.E. MR. MIROSLAV LAJ\u010c\u00c1K, PRESIDENT OF THE 72ND<\/sup>\u00a0SESSION OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY, AT THE ELECTION OF THE PRESIDENT FOR THE 73rd SESSION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Excellencies, distinguished delegates, ladies and gentlemen,<\/em><\/p>\n

Thank you for being here.<\/p>\n

I will speak very briefly.<\/p>\n

First, to congratulate Her Excellency Ms. Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa Garc\u00e9s on her election as the next President of the United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n

She will be only the fourth woman to hold this position, in the history of the United Nations.<\/p>\n

Frankly, four out of 73 is not a record to be proud of. But I am glad we are getting ourselves on track.<\/p>\n

The next few months will be critical, as preparations begin, for the 73rd<\/sup> Session.<\/p>\n

Your excellency, Madame President-elect, my door will always be open to you – \u00a0for support and advice.<\/p>\n

So, congratulations again.<\/p>\n

And I thank all of you \u2013 for helping to make this election the most transparent and inclusive yet.<\/p>\n
